The Coordination Mechanism

Overview & structure of the Coordination Mechanism within the CoMeCT project.

The Coordination Mechanism for Cohorts and Trials, this project, is built to unite many new and established boards that support the coordination of European efforts on and response to infectious disease outbreaks with epidemic potential.

Coordination Board

The Coordination Board (CB) aims to:

  • Combine efforts to optimise quantity, quality and impact of results;
  • Link studies and initiatives targeting similar populations;
  • Facilitate a structured and continuous dialogue between observational studies and adaptive platform trials;
  • Reduce duplication of study results;
  • Create tools and infrastructure to support the infectious disease and pandemic preparedness communities.

The Coordination Board includes clinical researchers from infectious disease networks, stakeholders from relevant regulatory, science and policy entities as well as the European Commission (RTD, SANTE, HERA) representative. The CB includes leads/principal investigators of EU-funded projects and or affiliates who are part of the Trial Coordination Board and the Cohort Coordination Board.

Once clearly defined the Outbreak Response Board will also integrate the CB. The CB also includes representatives from the broader funder and stakeholder landscape, EMA, ECDC, WHO and CEPI. The composition of this group can be brought to evolve throughout CoMeCT. Furthermore, networks and stakeholders from other regions may be invited to join as guests to promote and include needs and perspectives.

Working Groups

The work of the CB will be supported by the Working Groups of CoMeCT:

  • Exploration
  • Harmonisation and Innovation
  • Communication

Through mapping, communication and visualisation and data harmonisation they will assist and promote the CB.
