The ANRS Emerging Infectious Diseases (ANRS MIE) is an autonomous agency of Inserm which leads, evaluates, coordinates and finances research on HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, sexually transmitted infections, tuberculosis and emerging infectious diseases. It covers all scientific disciplines: basic, translational and clinical research, public health and human and social sciences.
Under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, and the Ministry of Health and Prevention, the ANRS MIE federates an inter-institutional network of French and international scientists communities and associations of patients, integrated into the governance and activities of the agency.
With a One Health approach, covering human and animal health as well as the impact of humans on the environment, it is preparing the response to the scientific challenges posed by emerging diseases, and its deployment in times of crisis. The agency is part of an international effort to combat epidemics, working closely with Europe and an international network of partners.

The European Clinical Research Alliance for Infectious Diseases (Ecraid) is a not-for profit foundation that advances clinical research in the field of infectious diseases by establishing a long-term, financially self-sustainable, clinical research network in Europe. Headquartered in Utrecht, the Netherlands, Ecraid is the first network of its kind in Europe to offer a single point of access to a pan-European clinical research network for infectious diseases and spans 1,200 clinical sites and 900 laboratories across 42 countries.

ECRIN unites national networks of clinical trial units across Europe, through its scientific partners, to fulfil its vision of generating scientific evidence to optimise medical practice. By supporting clinical trials across borders and advising and implementing policy, ECRIN advances knowledge flow, competitiveness and integration in European clinical research.

The University of Verona is a public University focusing on innovation and research, internationally renowned in the area of biomedical and infectious diseases research. The University Hospital is 1,600- bed medical centre including all medical specialties. The Infectious Diseases Section, within the Dept. of Diagnostics and Public Health, has extensive clinical and research activities with a multidisciplinary team involving > 80 members with different specialities (infectious diseases, internal medicine, microbiology, biology, statistic, bio-statistic, infection control, psychologist) coordinating and participating to several national and international projects funded by a range of different donor programmes (e.g. WHO, GARDP, IMI, Horizon2020, JPI-AMR, AIFA, and ESCMID). Research topics include therapy of severe bacterial infections caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria, prevention of healthcare associated infections, optimization of surveillance systems, antibiotic stewardship, diagnostic stewardship, AMR transmission and burden, STIs and Public Health.

The University Hospital Cologne (UHC) as part of the University of Cologne is a maximum care hospital with around 12,000 employees. The Medical Faculty sets a major priority in teaching and education in high academic standards besides research and patient care. UHC has thus become an excellent location for interdisciplinary research, diagnostics, and treatment. The University of Cologne, founded in 1388, is one of the oldest and largest in Europe and is internationally recognised for its high standards of graduate education and academic accomplishment. Interdisciplinary centres directly link basic with translational clinical research, highlighting the Institute of Translational Research within the Cologne Excellence Cluster (CECAD).

UHC coordinates the European vaccine trial network VACCELERATE which was established in 2021 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and makes a decisive contribution to Europe’s emergency preparedness.
